Sander Looijen brings an extensive track record and refreshing perspective along with his arrival at the leading destination for globetrotters, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali. With remarkable leadership qualities and commitment to guest satisfaction, the entire team at the resort aims to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
Before joining the resort, Sander started his journey with Marriott International in 2002 as a Management Intern at The St. Regis Shanghai. As his passion for the Food and Beverage industry grew, he secured positions within esteemed Marriott International hotels in the Asia Pacific region, particularly in Food and Beverage Operations departments.
Years later, Sander was appointed Director of Restaurants & Bars for Marriott International, where he took charge of the Food and Beverage operations for over 100 properties across the Asia Pacific.
Following the milestone is another achievement that led him to become the Area Director of Operations in South Korea. In this capacity, he ensured operational excellence and fostered remarkable regional growth. Then, Sander landed the General Manager position at Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa, where the resort was honored as one of The Top 20 Hotels in Thailand for Luxury and Service.
His recent career highlights include the role of Cluster General Manager at Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel and Four Points by Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung. With such dedication and leadership, Sander led the property to a prestigious “Hotel of the Year 2021’ award in the Greater China region and “Best New Hotel” by Ctrip. Also, he successfully established the complex as Hong Kong’s dine-and-drink hotspot.
In terms of individual contributions, Sander was honoured with the notable GM Mustang Award – Greater China 2020 – which is not the only recognition he received. He was awarded 2017 General Manager of the Year by Marriott International – Asia Pacific and 2009 Events Leader of the Year by Marriott International – Asia Pacific. These achievements set Sander’s reputation as a distinguished leader in the hospitality industry.
Sander cultivated exceptional people management skills through years of experience. From team leadership to brand execution and strategic planning, his expertise covers culinary trends and food and beverage concept development. In addition, he honed proficiency in event management. These qualities will elevate The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali’s dining experience and Bali International Convention Centre as the island’s pride.
At a personal level, Sander leads an active lifestyle, following a range of hobbies that reflect his passion for wellness and fitness, in harmony with the resort’s wellness approach. He is a water sports enthusiast, especially water polo. Also, he finds solace in the open water swimming, allowing him to connect with nature. Sander will enjoy the warm embrace of Bali along with her wife, Ligia, and his three children, Arthur, Oliver, and Ella.
With a shared commitment to delivering exceptional service, fostering well-being, and creating unforgettable moments, the Resort is excited to embark on this collaborative endeavor with Sander Looijen as its latest General Manager.
