Any hotel that offers a free-flow chocolate fountain at 4pm every day is a winner in our book. Strawberries, mini meringues, and marshmallows are just a few of the goodies begging to be dipped and devoured at Mövenpick Bali’s magnificent daily spread. It’s sheer cocoa indulgence. And it’s just one reason why your kids will love this resort as much as you.

A hop and a skip away from Jimbaran Beach, Mövenpick Bali incorporates four restaurants, various palm-flanked swimming pools, and a gold-trimmed spa inspired by ancient Indonesian wisdom. Promoting itself (quite rightly) as a family-friendly hotel, this five-star stay has a mix of modern, light-filled rooms and larger suites. If you’re travelling with little ones, the family duplex suites are ideal, with a master bedroom downstairs and a mezzanine for the kids.
We were lucky enough to experience their top-tier Jimbaran pool suite recently. With a floor space of 158 square metres, these are the largest accommodations, and feature airy living and dining spaces facing a private pool and shaded terrace. Capturing gardens, pool and ocean beyond, the views are just lovely! The palatial bathrooms are another plus. Think fancy polished fittings, free-standing tubs, and rain showers fit for two!
One of our favourite facilities was Arkipela, the resort’s spa. Decorated with Indonesian textiles and objets d’art from around the archipelago, the space includes an apothecary blending bar, nine treatment rooms with steam showers, and a relaxation lounge. Chakra unblocking is their specialty, which they achieve via a blend of Balinese wisdom, Swedish massage, acupressure and yoga movements. We can personally vouch for their signature massage, which left us feeling utterly zen.
Another big draw of Mövenpick is Meera Kids’ Club, a pirate-themed facility with two fun-dedicated floors for the little ones. There’s an indoor playground with trampoline and ball pit, an amphitheatre screening kids’ flicks, and a cosy snoozing area. Outside, the excitement continues with a toddlers’ splash pool complete with sprinklers and water slides for the bigger kids.
Supervised sessions include yoga and aerobics, and there’s even a family programme offering cooking, Balinese dancing lessons, and arts and crafts sessions for the whole clan!
We really enjoyed trying lontar heritage writing, which was rounded off with a traditional Balinese afternoon tea. Delicious!
Lovely as the resort is, it’s well worth stepping out to Jimbaran’s idyllic crescent bay. Grab a beach kit on the way out for a day of sandcastle-building and beers on the beach. Or, borrow one of the hotel’s bicycles and explore on two wheels! If you’d rather spend the day shopping, Samasta, the adjoining lifestyle mall, has boutiques, live music, and cafes aplenty.
However you end up spending the afternoon, we highly recommend heading to Jimbaran Beach in time for sunset. Watch the beach come alive as the barbecues fire up and the skies turn pink. Pull up a chair at one of the many seafood shacks and choose from locally caught prawns, lobster, mussels, clams, or fish. It’s all cooked a la plancha and served with fiery Balinese sambal (chopped chilli, shallots, and torch ginger flower condiment). There’s no better way to end a day in Jimbaran!
