Serangan Island Situated on the island of Serangan, also known as turtle-island, you’ll find Sakenan Temple. It’s a public temple, meaning that Hindus from all over Bali can give and receive offers; particularly on Kuningan Day the temple is extremely busy. This worship place was built of limestone and corals from the surrounding coastal reefs in the 10th century. One of the two main areas of the temple has undergone restoration, but the other part still retains it old features. Before the reclamation of Serangan in the nineties, pilgrims would trek by foot through the mangrove forests when it was low tide, all the way carrying ancient heirlooms and sacred temple objects. During high tide, traditional taxi boats would transport the crowd back and forth. Nowadays the temple can easily be reached by car or motorbike via a 110 metres long bridge.
