The Legian resort is hosting another musical presentation, Padma Musical Concerts, this September, featuring the Bali-born, internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, Joey Alexander, as he takes the stage with his musical trio, Joey Alexander and Friends.
Born in the vibrant island of Bali 20 years ago, Joey Alexander emerged as a musical prodigy from a young age, leading his parents to move to the U.S.A. when he was only 11.
During his days in the States, Joey enjoyed the mentorship and guidance of jazz legends like Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, and Allen Morrison of DownBeat Magazine. He even scored a sponsorship from the widow of tennis champ Arthur Ashe, who let Joey’s family stay at her estate in Alpine, New Jersey.
Joey has recorded six highly acclaimed albums in the USA for the last nine years. He keeps winning over worldwide crowds, captivating them at Jazz Festivals everywhere – from Odessa to Montreal, Newport to Copenhagen, and including iconic spots like the Juilliard School of Music and Jakarta.
Joey is the first Indonesian to chart on Billboard’s Top 200 and land three nominations for a Grammy Award. Moreover, Joey’s extraordinary talent has graced The US White House through his performance for President Obama, played for a global television audience live from Lincoln Center, and “wowed” a sold-out engagement at Carnegie Hall.
