20 Temples You Must Visit When In Bali
One thing is sure: when in Bali, one should visit at least one temple. Not sure which one to visit? Here’s an overview of Bali’s 20 most populair temples.
A love story gone wrong… Masceti temple is one of Bali’s nine directional temples and is supposed to guard the island from evil sea spirits. The temple is located on the sacred beach of Masceti on the island’s east coast. It’s a lesser known temple and barely visited by tourists. We’re not sure if this is because the temple is not as impressive as some other directional temples, or that the legend of Vishnu and his beloved Laksmi has scared travelers away.

Lord Vishnu, the maintainer of the universe, once was in a happy relationship with Laksmi, the Hindu Goddess of wealth and prosperity. They loved to spend time together at Masceti Beach and they often had long discussions while taking in the beautiful scenery. They usually shared opinions, but this time they didn’t manage to find a common ground. They argued heavily, ended up in a fight and ultimately broke up. Laksmi then divided the beach in two separate parts; nowadays one side is known as Masceti Beach and the other side asSaba Beach. Until today, the Balinese believe that love between couples who visit either one of the beaches is not meant to last forever…
The main part of the temple’s entrance faces a wide stretch of pristine beach, exclusively designated for Hindu ceremonies. The peacefulness you’ll find on this spiritual shore, you’ll not find on any other beach in Bali. Activities such as sunbathing, water sports and swimming in the ocean are strictly prohibited, so the beach is mostly free of tourists.
If you’re looking for a spiritual escape from the hustle and bustle of Kuta, then Masceti Beach is the right place for you. But think twice before bringing your partner here…
