A Gorgeous Beachfront Resort in Tembok

Earlier in the year, we spent a month in Bali with our children. During this trip, we took some time to explore the North of Bali. We had heard of a gorgeous beachfront resort in Tembok that was owned by a lovely Balinese lady Nyoman – Poinciana Resort!

We got the tip off about this lovely resort from one of our Bali Buddies followers who is a long time Bali lover herself. We love finding gems like this off the beaten track so we couldn’t wait to explore it.

Getting to Poinciana Resort

We had been staying in Sanur and made our way to Tembok via a quick stop in Bedugul. From Bedugul it took about 2 hours by car to arrive at Tembok from Bedugul. The trip was so scenic and there were opportunities to stop at many waterfalls along the way. Be aware though that taking this route the roads are very windy so be careful of travel sickness (we learnt this the hard way with one of our daughters). It is quite a view though as you make your way down from Bedugul.
On arrival to Poinciana Resort it was everything we imagined and more. We were welcomed by the lovely Nyoman who told us the story of how she came about building this resort with her brother. This resort has a very homely feel – perfect for the traveller that is trying to get away from the big touristy resorts.

Our Room at Poincina Resort in North Bali

We had a beachfront room/villa which was newly renovated and just gorgeous. The kids loved being able to walk out of our room and down on the beach. The resort boasts two pools, one of which has a spa. We spent most of our time in the pool that looked directly onto the beach. The staff at Poinciana must be commended, they were very attentive, remembered everyone’s names and made our stay there so enjoyable. Nyoman was around the resort regularly and entertained us with lots of her fabulous stories. It was clear that she was passionate about guests enjoying this gorgeous part of Bali.

There was a number of different room choices at the resort. The stand out being the three-bedroom family villa. The perfect place to bring a group of friends or family to enjoy a beachfront getaway.

Snorkeling in North Bali

One of the big drawcards of North Bali is you can snorkel straight off the beach in a lot of places. The beach is a rocky beach rather than a sand beach and the area is perfect for diving and snorkelling lovers alike. We had a fabulous morning out snorkelling in the waters just out the front of Poinciana. There are plenty of local boats around as well that can take you out a little further to snorkel or dive near the shipwreck.

Poinciana Resort Facilities

A big part of our stay at Poinciana was the whole family indulging in the amazing spa treatments. You can take the choice of having your treatments in the lovely spa or the Bale out by the beach. We couldn’t go past the Bale – having a massage while staring out to the ocean was a real kind of bliss.

The food at Poinciana could not be faulted. So much so that we had all bar one of our meals here. Like the spa treatments, you can choose where in the resort you’d like to dine. We loved dining out on the decks by the sea. The menu is very reasonably priced and we enjoyed every meal we ordered here!

Things To Do in North Bali

Attractions close by include waterfalls (within walking distance), traditional markets and Singaraja and Lovina are short drives away – of course, you can’t forget the snorkelling, diving and fishing!

Our favourite part of our stay was the early morning dolphin watching. We arranged with a local fisherman to pick us up on the beach at the front of our resort at 6 am just before the sun came up. We took the small boat about 30 minutes offshore admiring the beautiful sunrise. Before we knew it we were surrounded by hundreds of Dolphins jumping the waves and coming right up to our boat – we could almost touch them! The look on the kids’ faces was priceless. There was only one other boat out on the water and we kept throwing each other glances of amazement at what we witnessing. We travelled with the Dolphins for about 30 minutes before we headed back to the resort.

Final Words

We enjoyed our time at Poinciana Resort so much that we would now like to make it an annual ritual to head up and enjoy the serenity for a couple of days. We highly recommend this resort and can offer you great deals if you wish to stay here. Take a look at our photo gallery and see if you’re tempted!
