On the 22nd April 2024, the famed beachfront hotel held its inaugural Arak Fest at the Hall of Fame, supported by Elizabeth International and the island’s arak makers. Following its legalisation by the governor on the 29th January 2020, arak has undergone a remarkable evolution. This event further explored the traditional liquor’s journey and educated young aspiring hoteliers on the value of certified arak amongst notable imported liquors.

Arak, originating from the fermented sap of coconut flowers or rice, offers alcohol levels ranging from 15% to 50%. The traditional drink has been significant in Balinese society, both in religious and social functions. With locally produced arak now infused with more distinctly unique flavours, it’s essential to educate younger generations about the cultural heritage of this traditional liquor, with a vision to promote quality and authentic arak on the world stage.

The event also introduced participants to certified arak brands, such as Budi Pekerti, Palwana Salaka Ning, Sajeng Petala and Iwak Arumeri. Additionally, there were various brand demonstrations led by Bali arak producers and mixologist performances by Borti Jessika.

Coinciding with this inspiring event, Hard Rock Hotel Bali also launched its Arak Series. In line with the hotel’s sustainability principles, the Arak Series showcases the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Bali’s traditional liquor. The hotel ensures high quality and authenticity by sourcing from licensed and certified local producers. What’s more, this initiative supports the livelihoods of small-scale Arak farmers and producers in Bali.
