Where to Get The Best Vegan Food in Bali
Going vegan can be an ethical or health lead choice for some, but embracing a vegan lifestyle doesn’t mean that you have to live on lettuce and lentils!. Bali is a great place to be vegan with so many restaurants, cafes, warungs and even beach clubs, serving all things plant-based – so there’s no need to miss out on the best foodie experiences. You will find everything from pizzas, burgers, salads and even smokey tempe ribs at some of the best vegan and vegan-inclusive joints on the island.
We have put together a list of some of our favourite vegan spots, serving up plenty of delicious, wholesome, healthy food that we just can’t wait to share with you! Bon appetite to our vegan friends!
Merah Putih is an Indonesian fine dining experience like no other, where plates are set in the middle of the table so that guests can enjoy their meal family style, as is customary in Indonesia. Their 9-course tasting menu can be substituted with vegan options, showcasing both modern and traditional cooking techniques from across the archipelago. We recommend the vegan nasi campur lunch which allows you to sample a wide array of delicate plant-based flavours.
Grill’d Healthy Burgers
Address: Jl. Kayu Jati No.3X, Seminyak
Although not strictly a vegan restaurant, we still rate Grill’d as one of the best vegan restaurants in Bali. You’ll find that an impressive 8 burgers from their extensive menu are either vegan or vegetarian, with succulent plant-based ‘meat’ patties and veggie patties to choose from. Of course, all of their burgers are loaded with fresh, tasty ingredients for a total flavour bomb. Not only that but their vegetarian burgers can easily be adapted for vegans also.
One of the power players of Bali’s vegan scene, Kynd Community now has outlets in both Seminyak and Canggu. Kynd isn’t just about delicious vegan food, it’s about coming up with innovative ways to create and present plant-based cuisine, inspired by non-vegan comfort foods. Not only is the vegan food at Kynd totally delicious, their presentation has all the wow factor that is guaranteed to set your Instagram feed on fire! Their Mylkshakes in particular are super pretty and a total crowd-pleaser.
FINNS Beach Club
Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.99, Canggu
FINNS prides itself on being one of the best beach clubs in the world, and we think our vegan friends would have to agree. FINNS Beach Club and the various eateries that are a part of FINNS, including St Tropez, have plenty of delicious vegan food options. The vegan burger at St Tropez is a must-try and the FINNS crew are always happy to modify their regular dishes to make them more vegan-friendly – just ask your waiter!
The Avocado Factory
Address: Jl. Batu Mejan Canggu, Canggu
Creamy, ripe avocados are a staple for vegans, and at The Avocado Factory you’ll certainly get your fix! Although not a strictly vegan menu, they have a delicious vegan Eggs Benedict featuring avo, crispy avocado patty burger and an avo choc mousse. The ethos of the place screams sustainability, from the sexy avocado colour tiles to tabletops and furniture which have been made from 3000kgs of recycled plastic. Avocados & caring for our planet – what’s not to love?
The Shady Shack
Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.53, Canggu
One of Canggu’s first vegetarian cafes, The Shady Shack has an extensive menu full of wholesome, healthy foods that are both vegan and vegetarian. From the vegan Big Boss Burrito loaded with plant-based goodness, to the Scramble Tofu Breakfast Wraps and fresh salad bowls that any vegan would go crazy for. The Shady Shack is a Bali vegan institution that prides itself on serving up hearty plant-based dishes like no other. There is even a scrumptious nasi goreng made with cauliflower rice and their smoothies are some of the best in the biz too!
I Am Vegan Babe
Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.49, Canggu
I Am Vegan Babe serves all your plant-based Western comfort foods favourites such as Club Sandwiches, burritos, Eggs Benedict, crispy chicken salad, double bacon burgers and pancake stacks loaded with ice cream – all 100% vegan of course. They even serve a vegan version of whipped cream on their iced drinks and desserts, which is so tasty you will be screaming for more! At this Bali vegan eatery, the food is presented so beautifully, you almost won’t want to eat it. Almost!
Roots in Pererenan is serving up tasty salads packed with big, bold flavours. Not only that, but you can also mix and match your own ingredients, picking all your personal favs such as pickles, kimchi, smoked tofu, smoked nuts and a whole host of delicious dressings. In the evening, you can also choose from additional dishes like beetroot tartare, eggplant tempura bao and jackfruit spring rolls. The entire place is vegetarian with a massive variety of scrummy dishes on the menu. And once you’ve decided what you’re going to eat, why not pair it with one of their yummy signature cocktails? Perfect!

A bar and hangout first and foremost, Friends has a compact menu with vegetarian bar bites that will have you coming back for more. Choose from tofu and walnut meatballs, Canggu fried cauliflower, dirty jack sliders and many other yummy vegan and vegetarian options. With its great drinks, great food and great vibes, Friends Bar is a triple treat for those in search of a good feed!
Hoi An by Me Vui
Address: Jl. Padang Linjong, Canggu
Authentic Vietnamese flavours combined with rice field views. Hoi An by Me Vui is a total vibe. Although not strictly a vegan restaurant, Vietnamese cuisine is highly compatible with a vegan diet. They have a vegan Phō, which we feel is definitely worth mentioning. As well as their vegan spring rolls, rice paper rolls, bahn mi and bun bo xao.
You can all relax – the ever-elusive perfect vegan croissant has been found! It’s no secret that Secret Spot has some of the finest vegan food in Bali. There are so many delicious plant-based dishes to choose from, such as their homemade vegan and gluten-free lasagna, jackfruit stroganoff, poke bowls, salads, burgers and so much more. Be sure to leave room for their wide selection of vegan and gluten-free treats which will totally blow your mind!
Coconut based ice-cream is a huge win for vegans! Mad Pops uses all-natural ingredients to make some of the tastiest, funkiest ice cream on the island – with fresh coconuts as the base and absolutely no artificial flavours. Not only is Mad Pops totally plant-based, but they also use only ethically sourced ingredients from local farmers. Be sure to check out their epic Taco Tuesdays, where you can load up a crispy waffle taco with all your favourite Mad Pops flavours and toppings.
KASTO Italian Restaurant
Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.17A, Canggu
Kastro Vegan Restaurant is the only fully plant-based Italian restaurant in Bali. There are paninis, ravioli, lasagne, pizza, calzone and so much more! Why not grab your friends and sit down to a real sharing feast – the traditional Italian family way! Their breakfast and lunch menu combines true authentic Italian flavours with unique dishes, such as truffle scramble tofu, omelette primavera served with vegan cream cheese and many other Italian-style dishes that we haven’t experienced at any other vegan restaurant in Bali. It’s an absolute must-try!
Pels Supershop is a 100% vegan cafe and store in Berawa with a menu jam-packed with hearty and healthy vegan food. Feast your mouth, eyes and soul with their Tricken Teriyaki bowl, Tricken Palmy with mash and veg, burritos with scrambled tofu and vegan mini-pizzas. We love their nasi campur which features some of the best vegan flavours from around the Indonesian archipelago.

This classic Italian joint is renowned for having the thinnest, crispiest and lightest pizza in Bali – maybe even the world! Luckily, they have a selection of ‘pizza vegane’ on the menu so vegans can get in on the hype also. They use an amazingly stretchy and realistic vegan mozzarella and even have a four-cheese pizza featuring vegan mozzarella, cheddar, camembert and brie. You’ll love the authentic Italian atmosphere and you’ll even be served a traditional Limoncello at the end of your meal – saluti!
Sakti Dining Room at Fivelements
This award-winning kitchen at Fivelements Luxury Wellness Retreat on the edge of Ubud’s Ayung River, features modern vegan gastronomy in a luxurious bamboo dining room setting. At Sakti it’s all about high quality, seasonal, local ingredients and playing with textures, tastes and vibrant colours. They believe that plant-based cuisine is vital to our lifeforce and helps to facilitate healing, even providing detoxifying programs for effective toxin elimination and overall health and wellness.
Everyone’s favourite health food store also has an organic cafe with plenty of vegan options on the menu. Bali Buda uses only organic and local produce to create delicious foods that nourish your body from top to toe. We’re big fans of their zero waste policy, where all leftover food is either composted or donated, and they use only recyclable or biodegradable packaging for takeaway orders. With 6 Bali Buda outlets around the island, tasty vegan food is never too far away!
Blend Cafe & Bistro
Renowned for serving up the prettiest smoothie bowls in Bali, you will definitely want to have your camera phone ready to snap some pics for The ‘Gram. Ubud is known as the artistic hub of Bali and the smoothie bowls and dishes at Blend are a true visual delight – even the vegan sushi is served with funky blue rice!. You can also enjoy dishes like nasi campur vegan style, lots of fresh juices, smoothies as well as plenty of other healthy vegan options to work your way through.
The name Mudra refers to the hand symbol which means gratitude, and at Mudra the medicinal ayurvedic food is certainly something to be thankful for. Everything is sourced from nearby farms and lovingly prepared by hand each day. The majority of their breakfast items are vegan and feature delicious vegan dumplings, poké bowls and lots of aromatic Asian dishes. Do yourself a favour and try the vegan potato rosti – it’s a total game-changer!
At The Elephant, good things come in threes – great food, great drinks and great views! You can enjoy hearty healthy salads and sensational smoothies whilst taking in views of the picturesque Sayan Valley from the terrace. There are plenty of Asian-inspired dishes to choose from, as well as pasta, veggie burgers and mouth-watering desserts. This place has that old-school traditional Ubud feel, so be sure you add it to your list when you’re next in the area!
Sister restaurant to The Elephant, Dumbo serves authentic Italian food that’s not only 100% vegetarian and vegan – but gluten-free friendly too. Their vegan-friendly antipasto comes with enticing plant-based bites and their perfectly woodfired pizzas (with lots of those tasty, crispy bits!) can also be made with nutritional yeast toppings or a gluten-free base. Their menu has something for everyone, with heaps of choice for those in search of pizza and pasta alternatives.
Alchemy is all about wellness for the body and mind. Offering yoga, holistic therapies and plenty of nourishing raw vegan foods, Alchemy is a huge player in the raw foods scene with their very own cookbook and cooking classes, promoting enzyme-rich (and tasty) cuisine. Organic, unprocessed, nutritious and vegan – this might be the healthiest spot to dine in Bali!

Akasha restaurant prides itself on their unique culinary concept, where all of their food is free from gluten, soy, corn, cashews, peanuts, artificial sweeteners, nasty oils, preservatives and dairy. Here the food doesn’t just taste and look amazing – it makes you feel amazing too! With the focus on digestive health, there are some meat and seafood dishes, but it’s the vegan food that shines!
Warung Dapur Deli
Address: Jl. Kutat Lestari No.72, Sanur Kauh
This quaint and cosy neighbourhood deli is tucked away in the quiet residential streets of Sanur. It’s the place to go for a little taste of home for many Westerners in Bali, with a menu made up of home-style comfort foods. Their dedicated vegan menu features nutritious salads, sandwiches and a very tasty vegan burger, all at budget-conscious prices and with no added nasties, like MSG or palm oil.
KooD Kolaborasi Untuk Desa
Address: Jl. Kutat Lestari No.2, Sanur Kauh
KooD is the go-to for vegans visiting the Sanur area, with a menu featuring vegan burgers, pizzas, Asian noodle dishes, ice cream and a boulangerie with a variety of scrummy freshly baked produce, like cinnamon rolls. It’s pure vegan indulgence! And it’s so good that we know of many non-vegan diners who choose to eat there on a regular basis. One thing’s for sure, their 100% plant-based menu has enough choice to keep you busy, as well as keep you coming back for more!

This Jimbaran fine dining restaurant serves delightful globally inspired cuisine, bringing together some of the best flavours and dishes from around the world in one stunning setting. The menu is curated daily by chef Don Fernando based on what fresh ingredients are in season locally and can be designed to include enticing plant-based dishes. For a luxe dining experience where the vibe, views and food are always on point – Opia is a guaranteed people-pleaser.
When it comes to nutritious, healthy, vegan food in Bali, it’s not always easy to find it outside of the busy areas of Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud and Uluwatu. But thankfully our favourite East Coast hidden gem, Hotel Komune has you covered with an enticing vegan menu served in their health hub. There are a whopping 9 vegan burgers to choose from, and an extensive menu jam-packed with numerous vegan dishes and delights.
