Umalas is a quaint little neighbourhood perfectly positioned between bustling Seminyak and Canggu. It may be quaint but Umalas is a fabulous little pocket of Bali that has been a favourite neighbourhood of the trendy European crowd.
With the Europeans comes great food and you will find eateries serving everything from great pasta, Mediterranean dishes, great wine and great cocktails. There are plenty of villas in the area also, and some boutique-style hotels. Whether you find yourself staying in Umalas or just passing through, you will find great restaurants and cafes that are sure to put Umalas on the map for you.
Our Pick of Bali’s Best Places to Eat in Umalas
Uma Gardens has serious indoor-outdoor vibes with candle-lit tables set upon an indoor garden with a dramatic arched roof. Not just a pretty face, the menu concept is impressive with the woodfired dishes taking center stage. Although they serve a huge variety of steak, charred chicken and rib dishes, a large portion of the dishes are vegetarian or vegan. We love Uma Gardens for both date night and also group dining as the dishes are made for sharing and also because of the uber-cool atmosphere.

You can wake up with Bistro Anwa for breakfast from 7am and come back again later in the day for drinks and snacks until 10pm. The menu is driven by local produce and the cocktails are crafted from quality ingredients. From the all-day brunch menu to sunset pizza and pasta on the rooftop terrace, there truly is something for everyone. Friday night is Kids Night with movies and popcorn for the kids while the grown-ups enjoy a sunset drink and dinner. They also have 6 flat screen TV making it a great spot to catch a game. This contemporary eatery is a staple of the Umalas area and we love the rice field views and cool breeze on the terrace.
You will get more than just a great cup of coffee at this hot spot, you will get a whole coffee experience. The talented and knowledgeable team at Bali Beans started with a coffee plantation in Bali’s Plaga area and they have wholesaled their beans all over the world. Their coffee is grown without the use of chemicals and fertilisers which means it’s better for you and better for the environment. Better yet these guys have a core ethical focus on empowering women through the farming trade. More recently they opened Bali Beans Cafe in Umalas which is a sexy spot for breakfast. If you are a coffee snob this joint is a MUST.
