For some, when there’s tea, there is happiness….it’s the drink that soothes the soul and solves your problems. Bali has no shortage of fantastic Afternoon Tea experiences, so without further ado… let’s start with a little history on where the tradition of the afternoon tea comes from and why it has become so famous in Bali….

The Great Tradition of Afternoon Tea

The ritual of “Afternoon Tea” originated in Britain in the early 1840s and was used as a mini meal to slake your appetite which preceded the seated dinner at 8pm. Traditionally ‘Afternoon Tea’ is a meal composed of finger sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, mini sweet pastries, cakes and tea or coffee.

Unique Afternoon Tea in Bali

This English tea-ritual has become popular all over the world, and in Bali it has also been embraced and tweaked to suit a ritual on the Island paradise. Think large terraces overlooking the Indian Ocean, the evocative background of the Nusa Archipelago, luxury restaurants nestled in tropical jungles, trendy bars surrounded by the crowded beaches ~ The Island of Gods has the many places to enjoy an afternoon tea experience, in exceptional locations, featuring both international and local treats.

The Library at Raffles Bali, Jimbaran
Afternoon Tea at The Library of Raffles Bali, Jimbaran

Welcome to Raffles Bali, a five-star, luxury beach resort that makes you really feel like you’re in your own piece of tropical paradise! The famous Raffles brand opened in Bali in 2020 and of course lives up to every bit of elegance that the Raffles brand is known for throughout the world.

Raffles Bali features a majestic natural environment that makes it seem like you are in the Royal Palace of Tirta Gangga. Featuring 32 luxurious villas, each with their own private pools overlooking the crystal clear waters of Jimbaran Bay.

This intimate resort has 2 restaurants (Rumari and Loloan Beach Bar and Grill), the iconic Writers Bar, and a series of dining experiences and a well-equipped spa and wellness centre. Can you imagine a better venue for your afternoon tea?

This indulgent afternoon tea is served inside the library, you can make yourself comfortable in chic armchairs whilst you select the afternoon tea set that inspires you most. We chose the Raffles Classic Tea Set accompanied by fine savory snacks such as the Sate Udang (grilled tiger prawn with chilli tomato sambal); Charcoal Tempe (green chilli coulis and kemangi); Heritage Pork Bao; Foie Gras Mousse (an exclusive blend of taste made of cashew crust, grilled caramelized pineapple and Kintamani citrus gel) and Tasmanian Smoked Salmon Rolls…. and that was just the savoury selection!

This afternoon tea also includes delicious sweets such as Chocolate Brownie, Mango Passion Meringue Tart, Cherry Tartlet, Kue Klepon, and Kue Lumpur (traditional Indonesian sweets with glutinous rice, coconut and palm sugar)…. and of course to top it off, no traditional tea tims is complete without scones. Delicious homemade scones that are just waiting to be enjoyed with the delicate Spiced Cinnamon Cream and the Strawberry Bedugul Jam.

Then comes the most important part: the TEA! 18 different varieties to choose from… the Queen would even find it hard to choose! The teas that struck us most were Pina Colada (a sweet fruit infusion with a hint of hibiscus), Miss Dammann (a green herbal tea made of ginger), Bali (a green tea fruity and floral as the values of the island that represents), Genmaicha (a green tea from Japan with a sweet aroma of roasted cereal)…but truly, there is a tea to suit all tastes in the Raffles Bali selection.

As you may have guessed, the chef and his skilled team use only the best local, seasonal produce. The teacups and the tea pots have been created just for Raffles Bali and of course add to the pleasure of the afternoon tea ritual.

Just an adjective to describe the experience: TEA- riffic! If you are serious about your afternoon tea experience, Raffles Bali will give you everything you expect and more during afternoon tea.
