Years after its establishment in Jakarta, the renowned art fair – Artmoments – finally made a debut in Bali with a whole new concept. Partnering with InterContinental Bali Resort in Jimbaran, the event took place between 23 and 25 June 2023, embracing the theme of “Infinite Boundaries.”

A Testament to the Local Creative Spirit
Artmoments Bali 2023, Indonesia’s exclusive hotel art fair, aims to support and showcase local galleries internationally. It provides artists, collectors, and enthusiasts a platform to explore Indonesia’s cultural heritage through contemporary fine art.
Stepping into Bali with the embodiment of the Hotel Room Art Fair concept, Artmoments Bali 2023 teamed up with InterContinental Bali Resort to transform a total of 14 guest rooms into immersive art galleries.
Artmoments Bali 2023 featured around 400 curated contemporary artworks from 100 artists and 15 galleries in Indonesia and beyond, as well as two special presentations. A range of works, from traditional Balinese to children’s contemporary, was presented at the event, adding a varied dimension to the first fine art exhibition on the Island of Gods.
Dr. Sendy Widjaja, Co-Founder and Fair Director, emphasized that Artmoments Bali 2023 was more than just an event – it was a testament to the creative spirit that thrives within the nation.
Under the artistic direction of Rizki Zaelani, the “Infinite Boundaries” theme highlighted the ever-evolving nature of contemporary fine art, reflecting the present era’s changing lives and societal dynamics.
Embarking on a Contemporary Art Voyage
InterContinental Bali Resort, in a momentous partnership with Artmoments, is proud to host a prestigious art fair featuring outstanding works by Indonesian artists. Following its major renovations, the resort unveiled a new look across public areas, rooms, and the remarkable Jimbaran Convention Center – which hosted the G20 event in 2022.
Jimbaran Convention Center, designed by ARKdesign Architects and inspired by an art gallery concept, is one of the most extensive event spaces in Bali. It is home to more than a dozen multi-purpose spaces, including one of the largest ballrooms on the island as well as ample outdoor space options.
The memorable art fair kicked off with Press Conference at Jimbaran Convention Center on 23 June 2023. The gong-beating moment symbolized the commencement of Artmoments Bali 2023, followed by a stunning performance of traditional Balinese dance.
Remarks were also delivered by Christoph Pouls, Resort Manager of InterContinental Bali Resort as the Official Venue Partner, and the honorary guest, the Head of the Bali Provincial Office of Culture, Prof. Dr. I Gede Arya Sugiartha.
Christoph Pouls, Resort Manager of InterContinental Bali Resort, expressed his hope that the art fair would contribute to the flourishing art scene and provide a platform for deserving artists. The resort is committed to supporting such artistic endeavors as it has always been putting the celebration of art and culture in Bali at the forefront.
Following the opening of Artmoments Bali 2023 was the event preview for invitation-only guests from 1 pm to 9 pm. The event then opened its doors to all art lovers for free on 24 and 25 June 2023.
During the preview, guests visited special exhibitions at Jimbaran Convention Center, including Museum Pasifika‘s “Women: Soul of Our Community” presentation. It features a range of graceful artworks, focusing on woman figures from different angles. One of the paintings includes Portrait of Elisabeth Sophia Catharina Ament by Indonesian renowned modern, Romantic painter, Raden Saleh.
The artistic journey continued with a guided tour of 14 hotel rooms at InterContinental Bali Resort displaying unique artworks. This one-of-a-kind experience aimed to inspire more people to incorporate art into their living or working spaces, making it an essential element of daily life.
And with that in mind, Artmoments Bali 2023 provided the platform to connect the growing art market with potential buyers in Indonesia and beyond. It offers the chance to acquire art by using credit card installments, Cicilan BCA 0%, for up to 24 months tenor.
Beyond the art exhibition, the inaugural Artmoments Bali also presented exciting programs: CONVERSE MOMENTS, MAKER MOMENTS, and ENCOUNTER MOMENTS involving creative professionals, industry experts, and key opinion leaders. From insightful panel discussions covering contemporary art topics to creative workshops, Artmoments Bali 2023 showed many ways to contribute to fostering art development in Indonesia.
One of the extraordinary sessions was “Plasticology,” hosted by Made Bayak, which educated participants on creating beautiful two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks using seemingly worthless plastic waste.

Founded in 2018, Artmoments has become a prominent figure in Indonesia’s art market, serving as a bridge between local artists, international talents, and prospective buyers. The debut of Artmoments Bali 2023 marked a significant milestone, propelling the art fair towards new heights and supporting Bali to become a leading art destination in Southeast Asia.
