Apartment-style suites, junior spa days, and an epic pool — here’s why Novotel Nusa Dua is among Bali’s best family-friendly hotels

Picture this: Turquoise shallows out front, rustling palms overhead, and a tropical cocktail concoction in hand. Yup, holidaying in Bali really is this idyllic. And if you’re with the kids, Nusa Dua — with its calm waters and traffic-free environment — is where it’s at.

Set within 4.8 hectares of lush gardens in Nusa Dua’s tourism compound, Novotel Bali ranks highly on the “family-friendly” scale. And for convenience and comfort for the whole clan, their apartment-style accommodation is hard to beat.

There are one, two, and three-bedroom units, with light-filled living and dining spaces and either a terrace, balcony, or private swimming pool! And for those evenings when the little ones just want to snuggle in at home, the kitchenette is just fine for whipping up a simple meal. With twin single beds for the kids, a TV and DVD player, and complimentary Wi-Fi, the apartments have a real residential feel.

For us, Bali holidays are all about making the most of the outdoors — especially with kids in tow. Swimming pools are a must, and Novotel has one of Nusa Dua’s loveliest. Frangipani trees and bright pink bougainvillea grow around the enormous two-tier lagoon pool, with tropical palm islands providing ample shade. If you want to top up on Vitamin D, there’s no shortage of sun loungers, and the traditional Balinese gazebos are a great base for groups and families.

A short shuttle ride away, talcum-soft sand and the Indian ocean await. Perched right on the sand, the resort’s 2.28 Beach Club is a great bet for a punchy cocktail while the kids build sandcastles in the shallows.

Food-wise, the menu is a mix of light and healthy salads, various styles of pasta, burgers, and Balinese specialties. But if there’s nothing you fancy, just try one of the other three on-site eateries!

Back at the resort, there’s plenty of organised fun for the little ones to enjoy. As well as an extensive outdoor playground, the hotel lays on a daily roster of activities to keep them busy. Egg painting, Balinese dress up, swimming lessons, temple visits, and movie nights are just a few.

And for that obligatory spa day, why not give the resort’s In Balance spa a go? Bali-style crème baths (hair spas), specialised anti-aging treatments, and chocolate-themed family spa rituals are all possibilities. There’s even a dedicated junior spa offering nail art, hair braiding, and prince and princess treatments!
