A Jungle Escape to The Heart of Ubud

Recently we were looking to take a break in the heart of Bali with plenty of rolling greenery as the backdrop and we found ourselves at the Westin Resort and Spa, Ubud.

The property opened in 2019 and is strategically positioned to be close enough to central Ubud whilst still feeling like a retreat in the middle of jungle wilderness. On arrival, the lobby impresses with spectacular green walls and hanging tropical plants cascading so you can feel the embrace of nature all around you from the minute you arrive. The sound of the Balinese gamelan in the background reminds us that we are in the cultural capital of Bali, as we begin to lean into a weekend of sunshine, swimming, and great food and drinks at this Premium Ubud property.

The style of the hotel is very contemporary, with Balinese-inspired accents and of course, a lot of nature throughout. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and stylish. Each room has a sitting area and large, very comfortable beds. All rooms have a garden view so you will feel connected to nature even from your room. We always appreciate the thoughtful details and we love that they leave you with a lavender essential oil spray by your pillow each night to send you on your way to a good night’s sleep.

After settling into our room, it’s time to check out the famous pool, the part we have been looking forward to the most after seeing some impressive pictures! The large lagoon infinity pool impresses with sweeping views out across the jungle-clad valley below. There is a heated jacuzzi for soaking and relaxing, and it’s the prime spot to enjoy the sunset over the valley. By the pool is a pool bar and there is even a swim-up bar so you can easily spend the day in the pool area. Don’t forget, happy hour is 4-6 pm.

Tall Trees is the restaurant by the pool which serves Indonesian and Western food. We loved the flavors and freshness of the Indonesian food, and of course, the views of the jungle and valley, and the fresh air make everything taste even better. We spent many hours here enjoying the quality food and drinks the Westin group is known for.

In the morning we made our way to the breakfast buffet and were glad that we arrived with empty stomachs as the variety of breakfast dishes on offer was huge, and naturally, we wanted to try a bit of everything. There were Asian food stations, a Japanese station, and all of the breakfast classics like eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, plenty of exotic fruits, and fresh juices. There are plenty of healthy choices and also lots of sweet treats like pastries baked fresh daily by the in-house pastry chef.

Located in the breathtaking Westin Ubud, this restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its inviting tables and chairs set alongside a mesmerizing pool.

The Heavenly Spa at the Westin is one of the best in the Ubud area and we enjoyed a heavenly Balinese massage during our stay. The spa area is very peaceful and uplifting and they recommend you arrive 45 minutes before your appointment so you can use the Hydro Jet Pools, Cold Plunge, Himalayan Salt Wall Saunas, and the Steam Room.

The Westin, unlike many other properties that are in the Ubud area, is only a 15-minute drive from central Ubud. Many properties will say they are in Ubud, but the drive into town can be 45 minutes to an hour. The resort offers a scheduled shuttle into town, and you could easily book a Grab also. We loved that the Westin Ubud offers the best of both worlds, close enough to the attractions and dining options of central Ubud while also being a peaceful and serene escape with plenty of beautiful natural landscape to admire.

The Westin is also one of the few family-friendly resorts in the area and has a kids club. The kids club has a daily schedule with a wide range of activities like kids yoga, dress-ups in Balinese dress, rabbit feeding, and making offerings.
