There are two martabak choices that you can choose from – sweet and savoury. Sweet Martabak is an eggy batter very much like batter pancakes. It gets deposited into a deep, oiled cast iron pan where it slowly cooks until the centre puffs up with tiny bubbles, It then gets carefully flipped out of the pan and topped. The most popular option seems to be the simplest: a thick spread of butter, followed by a layer of bitter chocolate sprinkles, and a big drizzle of condensed milk. Once the sprinkles are added, the pancake gets cut in half and closed up like a sandwich, where the residual heat makes everything melt together. You can get this street food dish starting from the price of 18,000 Rp. depending on the topping you choose…there are lots to choose from including Nutella, banana and of course savoury options too.
