Around a 30-minutes drive from Bedugul, you can visit the slightly lesser-known monkeys of the Sangeh Monkey Forest. The monkeys at Sangeh are slightly less cheeky than at the Monkey Forest in Ubud, but if you are worried about the monkeys getting too close, you can hire a guide who will keep them away. The forest itself is thick with tall trees and is very peaceful with a Hindu temple being the central point, so you will need to be attired correctly. The entry fee is less than at the Monkey Forest in Ubud at IDR75,000 (AUD$7.50) and you will find fewer tourists here also.

Although the hotel is abandoned and in a dilapidated state, you can still get an idea of its former glory, as well as superb views of Lake Buyan, the surrounding hills and rice fields. Most locals refuse to enter the site, as it is rumoured to be haunted by the ghosts of workers who have died there.
